Monday’s New Beginnings
Monday is our day to start new things, especially in the areas of art and music. This week we are shifting our focus from composers to some of the older hymns that are often sung during church services. This was prompted by a discussion about how one of the children that my oldest attends youth group with on Sundays made a comment that he thought that Mariah Carey wrote Amazing Grace. My own children have seen the movie Amazing Grace that tells the history of how and why this popular hymn was created. It is a fascinating story. You can read an overview here.
This morning, we started off our day by listening to “I’ll Fly Away”, “Holy, Holy, Holy”, “How Great Thou Art”, and “This is My Father’s World”. You can find all of these and more on youtube.
For art this week, we sat around the table after supper last night and polished our fingernails. Ok, that was a wise crack to make sure that you are still reading. We did polish our nails, but our painting that will serve as my desktop background this week is “Garden at Sainte Adresse” by Monet.
Have a Great Day!

Seems like you have a great homeschooling curriculum going. Monet’s are absolutely BEAUTIFUL. It makes me feel like I want to be there… in the painting scenery.
