Baking Clay
1 part salt
2 parts flour
1 part water
Mix and knead ingredients for about 2 minutes. Mold the clay into creations. Place on a foil covered cookie sheet. Prick larger areas with a fork. Bake at 275 degrees for about 1 hour or until golden and hard. Cool and paint. Preserve by spraying with clear varnish.
Bread Dough Clay
6 pieces of day old, white bread
3 teaspoons white glue
2 teaspoons water
parchment paper
Remove crusts from bread, and cut into small pieces. In a large mixing bowl, add water and glue to the bread pieces. Mix with your hands until a dough forms. When it’s ready, the mixture should be the consistency of pie dough. Roll out or pat out until flat on parchment paper. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters and set on a drying rack or roll into beads.
Glue
3/4 cups water
2 tablespoons corn syrup
1 tsp. white vinegar
1/2 cup cornstarch
3/4 cup cold water
Mix water, syrup and vinegar in a saucepan. Bring to a rolling boil. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch adn cold water. Add this mixture slowly to the first mixture. Stir constantly. Let stand overnight before using.
Paint
1 cup liquid starch
6 cups water
1/2 cup soap powder
food coloring
Dissolve soap powder in water, add starch and food coloring.
Gelatin Plastic
3 packages unflavored gelatin
9 tablespoons water
3-5 drops food coloring
Plastic lids from coffee cans, ice cream buckets, etc.
Cookie cutters
Straw for punching holes
ice cream buckets and kitchen wipes
In a small pan, mix the water and food coloring over low heat. Add the gelatin. Stir continuously and cook for 30 seconds until thickened. Pour the mixture into a plastic lid or flat mold, push the bubbles to the edge, and let set for 45 minutes. The gelatin will be soft, and this is the time to cut out with cookie cutters, scissors, poke holes with the staw, etc. Save scraps, because you can use them. Dry the shapes on a clothesline. They will be as hard as plastic in 2-3 days. As they dry, pieces are likely to curl up. To keep flat, put a kitchen wipe or clean cloth over the top of an ice cream bucket. Put your cutout on the cloth. Cut the center out of a lid that fits the bucket and put anotehr wipe over the top of the gelatin shape. Press the lid tightly over the top.
Poster Paint
1 tablespoon clear liquid detergent per container
2 teaspoons powdered tempera paint per container
In each small jar or plastic container, mix together 1 tablespoon detergent, and 2 teaspoons powdered tempera paint.
Soap Crayons
Ice cube tray
liquid food coloring
2 teaspoons hot water
1 cup soap flakes
For each color, put two tablespoons of hot water and one cup of soap flakes into a bowl. Add as many drops of food coloring to the mix as you wish. Stir the soap mixture until it thickens. This takes time, so be patient. Press spoonfuls of the first color of soap into sections of the ice tray. Mix enough soap in the other colors to fill the entire tray, repeating the first two steps. Let the soap crayons dry for one or two days. Gently bang the ice tray to loosen the crayons.
Glitter
Mix 3 tablespoons salt with about 2 drops of food coloring. Place the salt in a ziploc bag and mix until evently coated with food coloring. Leave the bag open and let dry for a few hours. May also do this with sugar.

1/2 tsp. water
1/2 tsp. cold cream
food coloring
Stir in cornstarch and cold cream until blended. Stir in water and food coloring. Paint on face. Remove with soap and water.
